Ametrine

I'm sure you already know that, big, colorful gemstones are almost always in style, but it seems like they are now more than ever. Probably because of the bright, colorful, European Pop styles that have found their way into America. You can see bi-colored gemstones, and especially Ametrines are becoming very popular. Partially because they are so rare. Ametrines are only mined from one mine in Boliva and once the supply runs out, they are gone.

Also, they are very popular because they are very beautiful. It is a mix between the purple Amethyst and yellow Citrine stones. It is rare that a stone possesses two complimentary colors like the Ametrine. I have learned from my art classes that the best way to contrast a color is not with black or white, as some may suspect, but with it's complement. Purple and yellow are compliments. Also, if you place two complementary colors next two each other it plays a trick on your brain and creates the illusion of movement. All these wonderful traits in one gorgeous stone. I've ordered several Amertrines and can't wait to get them in.

Here's a picture of the first gemstone necklace I made:

It contains a large, 36 ct. Ametrine stone and I LOVE it :) The colors are a little cooler in real life- not so "orangy."
